You can also connect via cable modem or optical modem (used by Verizon Fios) as well as satellite and of course through a cell phone carrier depending on which one you use most of which run close to 100Mbps.Some of these options are wired (which means you have to connect to a source via a wire) and some are wireless (transmits directly from your computer through an installed device on your computer).The internet is a tool used for various reasons from business, to informational to leisure to name a few.
